Karl Julius Altwasser, the son of Karl Altwasser and Anna Kristine Frieske, was born on May 26, 1849 in Czepow dolney, Dabie, Poland. On April 13, 1869, Karl Julius was married in the Lutheran Church in Dabie to Anna Karoline Hunker, the daughter of Jacob Hunker and Anna Marschewski.

He did not become a miller as his father and grandfather before him. Rather, he became a teacher and cantor, first in Dabrowa, then in Gorki and later in Nowa Zawadka, all in the Dabie area. The church records for the Dabie Parish have only been microfilmed to 1884. As a result we have been unable to identify all the children in this family. To October 1883, there were seven children born to Karl and Anna Karoline. Based on information handed down through the family and more recent documentation, Karl and his family did not migrate to Volhynia like his brothers, but stayed behind in Central Poland.

Johann Altwasser applied for German citizenship.

There were more than 2.1 million individuals applying to the Einwandererzentralstelle (EWZ) Immigration Center for Reich citizenship during the period 1939-1945.   EWZ was the central German authority for the immigration and naturalization of qualified ethnic Germans from Eastern European countries. At the onset of WW II, families in Poland had to provide proof of their German ethnicity to the Hitler administration in order to qualify for immigration and naturalization.

Dabie (Dombie) had been renamed Eichstädt when Johann Altwasser requested information to support his German ethnicity. The data to produce the ancestor chart below came from documents signed by Kantor J. Bojanowski in March 1940.   Kantor Bojanowski had extracted the information from the parish church register to provide the required documention and Werner Altwasser generously made copies of these documents available in 2008.
